tsondab sandstone formation
Tsondab Sandstone Photos and Facts
The Tsondab Sandstone formation is exposed in the Sesriem Canyon, on the road to Sossusvlei and also in other parts of Namibia. My Tsondab Sandstone photos were taken in the Sesriem Canyon.
The Tsondab Sandstone formation is the fossilized remains of a 20 million year old desert in Namibia. This fossilized desert lies underneath the Namib Desert. It is fascinating that the Namib Desert is the oldest desert in the world but it lies on top of the fossilized remains of a 20 million year old prehistoric desert!
View my Tsondab Sandstone photos and read all the facts in my Sesriem Canyon and Sossusvlei posts that are linked to below. The prehistoric desertification that existed in Namibia 20 million years ago still exists today. Namibia has one of the most profound and photogenic natural landscapes in the world. Please review my facts and photos of the fossilized remains of the prehistoric Tsondab desert.
